Decisive moment by Awstein Decisive moment by Awstein
Well, my first post in a long long time. Obviously inspired by Cartier-Bresson and his belief that you have to wait for the exact right moment to take a picture - he, too, discovered that when a bike entered his frame.
I hope you like it!

Thank you :dalove: It's in Paris, in the yard of Le Louvre. The glass pyramids are an addition that was built about 30 years ago I'd say.

Merci beaucoup ! J'ai beaucoup tourné autour de la pyramide avant de le trouver, et j'ai eu de la chance que la bicyclette entre dans mon champ de vision à ce moment précis...

Quite an interesting anecdote, I like how did you was inspired by it. The photo itself is beautiful: you took it from the right point of view, the angles of the pyramids collide towards the sky and the human figure in the foreground comes out starkly like that. Nice choice of the black and white, too. Great shot.

I was not really considering Cartier-Bresson when I took the picture, but once I saw it on my computer the resemblance in the process jumped at me. Not that it's nearly as good, of course, but not everyone can be a master like dear old Henri :p

love the cartier-bresson reference.

i like the play of geometrical shapes within the photo, particularly at which the angle this was taken. i also like how you framed your subject using the glass pyramid in the background. it's pretty cool that you exposed the shot for back lighting of sorts giving the subject a silhouette look. the touch of buildings being seen in the photograph give just enough context to the picture without having it be distracting. the tiny bit of vignetting at the top right corner gives the piece a vintage flair.

i love the simplicity and minimalist quality to the frame. it's very elegant and beautiful. bravo on a great photo.

Thank you, that's an extremely generous comment!
I was glad the picture kind of worked out because there was this other photographer in front of me who kept kneeling in front of the pyramid for ages... It was extremely annoying. Then he got up, walked a few paces on the side, and BAM the bike entered my frame. I was really... relieved ^^

you're most welcome! it's my pleasure. :)

oh i can really see how that's annoying. i hate when that happens. i also get annoyed if i'm at my parents' during the holidays and there's a scene i want to capture that's not going to last long and my dad decides to pick up a point and shoot and steps in front of me to take really bad photos.

haha, well hurray for serendipity. :P it's a really fantastic shot.
