When photography was first invented, some people refused to have their portrait taken: they believed the camera would steal a small bit of their soul. But the camera never steals - it simply borrows. It cannot invent something that's not there. However it can enhance and transform, guided by the photographer. In that respect, it mirrors as much or even more the artist as it does the model. From that relationships between two subjects the portrait is born.
